Program Overview

Advanced Manufacturing Foundations is a free, 3‑day introductory workshop that helps secondary students explore the tools, concepts, and technologies shaping modern advanced manufacturing, skilled trades, engineering, and STEM fields. The program strengthens pathway readiness, supports SHSM sector development, and helps students make informed decisions about co‑ops, apprenticeships, and post‑secondary options.

What Students Will Learn

Students experience a guided, beginner‑friendly introduction to modern manufacturing and real‑world production processes. No experience needed — just curiosity.

Module 1 — Digital Design & 3D Printing

  • Learn the basics of CAD modelling
  • Try measurement and reverse engineering
  • See how 3D scanners capture real objects
  • Follow the full 3D printing process from design to finished part

Module 2 — CNC & Subtractive Manufacturing

  • Understand how digital designs become physical components
  • Learn what CAM software does
  • Watch how toolpaths guide CNC machines
  • Explore the full machining workflow, from initial design to a precision‑finished part

Module 3 — Robotics & Automation

  • Learn how industrial robotics is shaping our future
  • Try simple pick‑and‑place tasks
  • Explore robotic arm laser engraving & other precision automation simulations
  • Learn how automation supports human workers in Industry 4.0 environments

Do I have to complete all 3 modules in 3 consecutive days?

No. You may complete the modules at different times. However, to receive the Advanced Manufacturing Foundations Certificate, all three modules must be completed by June 2027.

Is the course free?

Yes. All three modules are offered free of charge to eligible secondary students.

Can I book off‑site training at my school?

Yes. You may request off‑site training at your school during registration. Please note:

  • Off‑site training is offered at your cost.
  • Off‑site delivery may be limited in content and hands‑on experience.
