Mixed Métal Robotics is Mastermind Youth Foundation’s flagship competitive robotics team, uniting students from across Sarnia–Lambton in a multi‑division program that grows with them as they advance in age, skill, and ambition. The team competes in three official FIRST Robotics leagues, each offering a unique level of challenge and innovation.
DIVISIONS
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) — Ages 9–14
Students explore real‑world problems, learn foundational engineering, and build autonomous LEGO robots to complete themed missions. FLL builds creativity, teamwork, and early technical confidence.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) — Ages 12–18
Teams design, fabricate, and program custom metal robots using advanced components, sensors, and coding platforms. FTC emphasizes iterative engineering, strategic gameplay, and hands‑on problem‑solving.
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) — Ages 14–18
High school students take on the “varsity sport for the mind,” building 120‑lb industrial‑grade robots under strict rules and tight deadlines. FRC develops leadership, project management, machining, electrical systems, and high‑level software development.
